Microbiome Video Competition!

Are you a fan of the human microbiome, love making videos, or want to learn? If so, submit a short Film to our Video Competition!

The Benioff Center for Microbiome Medicine at the University of California San Francisco invites students from San Francisco and Oakland to demonstrate their movie-making skills.

Tell us about the human microbiome through your lens!

The competition is open to middle and high school students (grades 6-12) from Oakland Unified School District and San Francisco Unified School District. Winning videos will be chosen on the basis of creativity and the ability to make a compelling short film that leaves the audience better informed about or interested in the human microbiome. Winning videos will be screened at a virtual film festival in June and published on the BCMM website.

Read below for more guidelines and information. Deadline for submissions is midnight, May 21, 2021.

SUMMARY OF RULES

The rules are easy and straightforward:

  • All videos must be about the human microbiome
  • All videos must three-five minutes in length
  • All videos must be made entirely by an individual student or a group of students

JUDGING AND PRIZES

All submissions will be judged by a committee of filmmakers and microbiome researchers. The top winners in each category — middle school and high school — will receive a cash prize and have their videos featured by the UCSF BCMM (website, social media).
