Thank you for your interest in the Benioff Center for Microbiome Medicine's Gut–X Axis Interactions Symposium. This full-day symposium will bring together leading investigators studying how the gut microbiome influences biological processes and disease across organ systems, including the brain, bone, liver, and joints. Through a combination of focused scientific talks, cross-disciplinary discussion, and informal interaction, the program is designed to highlight emerging mechanisms of gut–organ communication and create opportunities for new ideas and collaborations across fields.
The day will feature four thematic scientific sessions—Gut–Brain, Gut–Bone, Gut–Liver, and Gut–Joints—followed by a keynote presentation from Dr. Christoph Thaiss of Arc Institute and an evening poster reception. Attendees will hear from researchers representing a broad range of institutions and disciplines, providing a comparative view of how microbial signals, metabolites, immune pathways, and host physiology intersect across different organ systems.
We hope the symposium will provide a forum not only for learning about advances in individual areas of microbiome research, but also for identifying shared biological principles and new questions that emerge when these systems are considered together. The poster reception will provide additional time to continue those conversations, connect with speakers and colleagues, and learn about ongoing work from across the research community. In-person and virtual attendance are available.

For Uber/Lyft or taxi service, use 513 Parnassus Avenue, San Francisco, CA 94143 as the destination.
Public Transit
From downtown San Francisco, the N-Judah Muni line serves the Inner Sunset. The Irving St & Arguello Blvd stop provides convenient access to the Parnassus campus. Travelers arriving by BART or Caltrain can connect to Muni for the final portion of the trip. Parnassus is also served by the 43 and 6 Muni lines.

Taking UCSF Shuttles
Free UCSF shuttles connect the Parnassus campus with our Mount Zion and Mission Bay campuses as well as other UCSF locations and the 16th Street BART station. Shuttles are available to employees and guests.

Driving and Parking
The closest UCSF parking facility is the Millberry Union Garage at 500 Parnassus Avenue. Please allow extra time for parking and walking to the symposium location.

Navigating to the Auditorium
The symposium will take place in HSW-300 in the Health Sciences West Building. The auditorium is most easily accessed via the Medical Sciences Building on Parnassus Avenue (nearest cross streets are Hillway Ave. and 3rd Ave; see image). Follow the signage to the auditorium; an annotated map is below.
