The BCMM provides trainees and research staff up to $1,000 to attend an upcoming microbiome-focused workshop or other training opportunity. Past events will not be considered. Attendance to both virtual and in-person events will be considered. BCMM is particularly interested in facilitating training/education of those new to the field of microbiome research.
Eligibility: Applicants that meet the following will be prioritized for funding:
- Being a BCMM member (active or membership pending)
- Have at least one ongoing project for which microbiome research is a primary focus
- Have an active appointment as a UCSF trainee (any level) or research staff
- Not have been awarded a Trainee or Staff Travel Award within the last 12 months
UCSF and the BCMM do not use race, gender, sex, or other protected categories or proxies for protected categories in the selection process.
Deadlines: Applications are reviewed four times a year (January, April, August, November). Here are the upcoming deadlines:
- November 20, 2025
- January 22, 2026
- April 23, 2026
- August 20, 2026
Awards will be announced 1-2 weeks after the deadline. Funds will be provided as a reimbursement after the training is completed.
