The Benioff Center for Microbiome Medicine is proud to announce we have installed B.SIGHT, a new instrument for high-throughput microbial single-cell sorting, culturing and functional screening in the Culturing Facility. B.SIGHT is a fully automated microbial single-cell sorter and dispenser that leverages cutting-edge microfluidics and imaging technologies to isolate individual bacterial or fungal cells from suspension samples via brightfield or green fluorescence detection. This innovative instrument efficiently partitions single microbial cells into individual compartments within a multi-well plate for clonal expansion, enabling high-throughput microbial isolation with minimal manual processing. More importantly, it has been shown to fast-track i) cultivation of human microbiome samples, ii) preparation of samples for microbial single-cell genomics, and iii) microbial transformation and cloning workflows.

We have organized a Lunch & Learn with the B.SIGHT team members who are going to present a slide deck on this platform and its applications in microbiology and biotechnology research. The latter portion of the session will be an office hour and we can help brainstorm the logistics of your next culturing experiment!
