UCSF receives $8M for centralization and modernization of the Quantitative Metabolite Analysis Center

The Benioff Center for Microbiome Medicine at UCSF is excited to announce the receipt of an $8 million award from the NIH Office of Research Infrastructure Programs to further develop the Quantitative Metabolite Analysis Center (QMAC) located at our Parnassus Heights campus. This initiative is spearheaded by BCMM Director, Susan Lynch, PhD.

This generous award will fund the expansion and modernization of the QMAC, which was initially launched in 2021 with seed funding from the BCMM and other UCSF stakeholders. The new facility will greatly enhance our capabilities to explore biological specimens at the molecular level, leveraging recent advancements in mass spectrometry.

The state-of-the-science facility, covering 3,100 square feet, will centralize resources to optimize research efficiency and accessibility. Open to both intramural and extramural investigators, the facility will offer a centralized hub for innovative research, education, training, and diverse workforce development, while also focusing on energy efficiency and sustainability. It is poised to become a leading facility in metabolomics, focusing on the development of new analytical tools and promoting interdisciplinary collaboration.
